SOLD. -THANK-YOU!

The Unkoku clan claimed its direct artistic lineage from the great Sesshū Tōyō. Unkoku Tōki was the eighth generation head of that school, which was well known for its paintings of hawks, which were considered auspicious for courage and were popular for collectors in the upper classes. Here, the hawk is perching on a pine branch, -the pine being auspicious for longevity, endurance, steadfastness and marital bliss. -Large size. Many small, repaired damages. New mounting. Still enjoyable for a piece more than 170 years old. Priced, as all of our scrolls are, based on condition as well as rarity.
