Born in Kyoto, Masao-san graduated from the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts Painting course in 1932 and then entered the Kyoto City Painting College, which he graduated from in 1935. Soon after he studied with the great master of painting “bijin” (beauties) Kikuchi Keigetsu. This study lead to his first exhibitions and then further study with Uda Tekison. Further entries into exhibition led to various prizes and culminated in a commissioned exhibition in 1972. One of the pinnacles of his career was the exhibition of his folding screens commissioned by the Imperial Household in 1988. These prints come from the high quality, limited edition release of 200 sets of 54 prints each in 1953. Sealed “Masao”. The “Genjimon” symbol at the top right of each print changes with each chapter title. Strong gold, silver and metallic pigments and some hand-painted touches from print to print. Very good condition.
