Horie Gyokuho – 堀江玉鳳 (b. 1917) – Tigers – 虎

Horie-san was born in Kano, Gifu City in 1917. He studied under Tamaki Raiseki  (1899-1978) and served as a director of the Toyama Japanese Animal Painting Association. His paintings of tigers were, and still are very popular in Japan. The brushwork is exceptionally fine and demonstrates Tamaki-san’s skills at rendering these awesome felines with realism and the dream-like qualities of a steamy jungle. Auspicious for a strong marraige. With original signed and titled box. Excellent condition. *Please click on the upper left-hand corner of the photos to enlarge them a second time.
