Sansui – 山水

Artist not yet determined. This piece shows Nanga skills at the top of their form, as well as staying true to the bunjin (literati) aesthetic associated with predecessors like the great Ike No Taiga. Good luck for longevity, inner calm, reflection and meditation. Normal condition for its age (wrinkles, small holes in the Tei [upper part of mounting] small stains and damages). Still very strong and very enjoyable. All pieces of the scroll are the original except the hanging string (they have to be replaced once every century roughly). Date: Early Meiji period.
