From Shimonoseki , Yamaguchi, Matsuoka-san graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1944. In 1949, he found success making hanga covers for children’s poetry books. He exhibited with and was a member of Nihon Nanga Kyokai. Besides exhibiting in the U.S. and Italy, he was a teacher in Kita Kyushu. Matsuoka-san visited the bay in Misumi and decided to paint there. The last picture gives one an idea of his surroundings. The richness of color of this piece is quite impressive. Very good condition. 21.5″ x 15″ (paper size), 16.5 x 10.5 (image size). Numbered #24/100 – 1990. Very rare.
