Matsuoka Toshiyuki – 松岡敏行 (b. 1921) – Limited Edition Mimeograph – 謄写版 – Sumiyoshihama – 住吉浜

$250.00 CAD

From Shimonoseki , Yamaguchi, Matsuoka-san graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1944. In 1949, he found success making hanga covers for children’s poetry books. He exhibited with and was a member of Nihon Nanga Kyokai. Besides exhibiting in the U.S. and Italy, he was a teacher in Kita Kyushu. He is held in the Museum of Modern Art Wakayama (see image 10). Matsuoka-san would often paint as the beaches started to grow quiet and people started home as the evening cooled – such an evening in Sumiyoshihama (also the location of a popular resort park) is shown in the last picture. The richness of color of this piece is quite impressive. Very good condition. 21.5″ x 15″ (paper size), 16.5 x 10.5 (image size). Numbered #13/200 – 1990. Rare.
