Matsuoka Toshiyuki – 松岡敏行 (b. 1921) – Limited Edition Screen Print – Karatsu-wan – 唐津湾

SOLD. THANK-YOU!

From Shimonoseki , Yamaguchi, Matsuoka-san graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1944. In 1949, he found success making hanga covers for children’s poetry books. He exhibited with and was a member of Nihon Nanga Kyokai. Besides exhibiting in the U.S. and Italy, he was a teacher in Kita Kyushu. This piece was painted while Matsuoka-san was visiting Karatsu-wan (the beautiful bay area of Karatsu City). The last picture, taken at Karatsu Bay, gives us an example of why it is so attractive to painters. The richness of color of this piece is quite impressive. Very good condition. 21.5″ x 15″ (paper size), 16.5 x 10.5 (image size). Numbered #14/130 – 1989. Very rare.

SOLD. THANK-YOU!
