SOLD. -THANK-YOU!

Yoshikazu was a very successful painter of the Utagawa School. The Taiheiki is one of Japan’s most enduring warrior chronicles, which has been extrapolated upon extensively over the centuries. Prints from this series are held in the MFA. The colour-scheme of ours is different, which is not uncommon. Both ours and the MFA’s came from the same blocks, as can be evidenced from the wood grains discerned in the background colours. In conclusion, different color-schemes coming from different printers was common during this time, as can be seen here (beginning with the fourth print). Beautiful real gold leaf in the mounting surrounding the print adds a lovely reflective quality and creates a dynamic energy around the print. Very good condition.
