Watanabe Shukei – 渡辺秋谿 (1865-1940) – Waterfall – 滝

SOLD. THANK-YOU!

Shukei was one of the many successful students of the greats Okumura Sekiran and Kubota Beisen. Studying Shijō-ha under Sekiran led Shukei and many of his colleagues to become masters of Shijō-style waterfall painting. The Japanese love waterfalls and have been documenting them in their art since ancient times. Hanging a waterfall in the home is auspicious as a zen reflection of one’s energy and vitality and is good luck for wealth pouring in. It also creates a cooling atmosphere during the hot summer months. High quality silk mounting. Good, normal condition for its age (slight foxing and small stains).  The final photo shows the same signature from a private collection in Japan with 2 of his alternate name stamps (of which he, and every other painter had many). *Please click on the upper left-hand corner of the photos to enlarge them a second time.

24″ x 77″ – $225 – SOLD. THANK-YOU!
