An important figure in bringing the “Kano” school into the 20th Century, Gaho Hashimoto (1835 – 1908) enjoyed painting intricate 3-Dimensional structures into landscapes and he liked how gold paint relected in candlelight. This painting has both qualities. Normal condition. Light stains and wrinkles.

A Winter Sansui can be a great compliment to the season, and I have a favorite that I put up that makes it feel more like winter inside. This piece, by the prolific modern painter Shunko, is one of the best pieces that I’ve seen of his. The balance of the colours is rich, alive and soothing.
75″ x 23″ – $250

The painter of this next piece has yet to be identified, but executed an fine example of a Haboku Sansui. A Haboku composition is one of abstract simplification of the subject matter and a great freedom of brushwork. This piece comes with its original old tomobako box and is roughly 100 years old.
57″ x 17.5″ – $350

This piece is by the great Mori Kansai (not his original name, and perhaps an homage to the forests of the Kansai region as “Mori” means forest, or an homage to the original ruling clan of his home town, the “Mori” clan)
78″ x 27″ – $1000
