Date: Showa period (1960’s). / Condition: Excellent (bit of extremely faint foxing – a couple of small / faint pigment smears in the margins where the registration marks weren’t). Lightly tipped to original archival viewing folder. With high-quality, hand-printed “bokashi” shading gradations. Hand-printed by master printers from carvings by master carvers on extremely high quality Echizen kizuki hosho washi (a unique handmade Japanese type of paper – see pictures to inspect the rough “kiri” edges). Made from start to finish using the techniques of traditional Ukiyo-e.Provenance: Private collection, Kyoto.
The poem reads (roughly translated): “Full spring leaves. Tired of sleeping in the grass. Depressed and lonely at Okabe’s inn. Even in my dreams I can’t meet who I long to be with.”
