Hiroshige put even more work into his Kiso Highway pieces than he did into the 53 Stations of the Tokaido series – and this, “Karuizawa” is one of the best. The travellers are rendered with absolute sincerity. Hiroshige only made twice the income of a day labourer, and he worked tirelessly – so his heart was never above his fellow man. High quality Takamizawa Company (Est. 1911) print. Rich colours and expert shading. In original archival folder with protective onionskin and summary page. – Will look gorgeous in the right frame.
