$325.00 CAD

Born in Sasayama, Hyogo, Hirao-san was, early on, inspired by Watanabe Kazan’s school although born after that great master’s death. He studied Maruyama-Shijō in Kyoto and entered the Kyoto City University of Arts. As he progressed, he entered exhibitions and helped develop the Japan Nanga Association. This piece shows his Nanga skills at the top of their form, as well as staying true to the bunjin (literati) aesthetic associated with predecessors like the great Ike No Taiga. Good luck for longevity, inner calm, reflection and meditation. Normal condition for its age (wrinkles, small holes in the Tei [upper part of mounting] small stains and damages). Still very strong and very enjoyable. All pieces of the scroll are the original except the hanging string (theY have to be replaced once every half-century roughly. Date: Early Meiji period.
