Keisai Eisen – 渓斎 英泉 (1790–1848) – A Beauty in the Morning Mist – 朝の霧の中の美人

SOLD. THANK-YOU!

Keisai Eisen was born in Tokyo as the son of a calligrapher, a circumstance that lent itself well to his masterful use of calligraphy on his own work. He was quite prolific in his time and also produced a large number of shunga (erotic prints). This is one of his most striking pieces, as the beauty has woken up to a cold morning with quite a hangover. The haiku reads “a limpid blooming beauty in a boat in the morning mist”. Very good condition. With original description page. Published by Yamaguchi-ya Tobei. Date: Shōwa period. Click the top left corner of the image to enlarge.
