Kimura Hirose – 木村廣畝 (1851 – ?) – Sparrows & Bamboo – スズメと竹
$400.00 CAD
Kimura-san was born in Ashio, Tochigi. His birth name was Kuwaukichi. When he was young he moved to study in Tokyo and became a student of Araki Kanpo. He is known to still be alive in the 1920’s when he showed at the Japan-China Union Exhibition (which was started by Kanpo) with Kanpo’s son, Jippo. This piece, which is showing some normal toning, is a fine example of how well-trained Kanpo’s disciples were, -and is a testament to the ancient Japanese practices of master-to-apprentice direct transmission.
There is 3-fold ancient symbolism inherent in this painting that will make it auspicious to hang in one’s home.
