Attributed to Kubota Tosui – 久保田桃水 (? – 1911) – Bird & Wax Tree – 鳥とハゼノキ

Another Shijo school painter, Kubota-san came up through the tutelage of Yokoyama Seiki (click on the zoom to adjust the image). After that extensive training, he moved to Osaka and studied with the most important Shijo school master there, Nishiyama Hōen. These artists are world-renowned for their Kachō–ga. The wax tree is auspicious for the coming of autumn and a zen reminder of that which is wabi-sabi. Excellent condition for its age (light creases). Exquisite silk mounting.
