SOLD. -THANK-YOU!
Maekawa-san was born in Kyoto to Shijo school painter Maekawa Gorei, who in turn was a pupil of the great Matsumura Keibun. As well as teaching at the Kyoto Prefecture Painting School at the time of its opening, he joined the Kyoto Art Association and served as a judge on the Japan Youth Painting Exhibition Committee. During his distinguished career he exhibited at the Japan Painting Exposition Association, the National Painting Exposition Fair, the Japan Painting Association, and the Japan Art Institute Coalition Painting Exhibition Association. Normal condition (Light edge wear to the mounting, a few small, minor creases, minor paint flaking, small stains, and general toning and ageing that do not affect the ability to appreciate its beauty). The last picture is of the same name seal used by Maekawa-san for a different painting which is held in a private collection in Japan. This piece was reinforced with a thin piece of washi – a process called “ura-uchi”, and high quality washi tape for kakejiku reinforces the top and bottom seams along the jiku-bou (top and bottom rollers). Bone roller ends. *Please click the top left corner of the pictures to expand them.
