Matsuoka Toshiyuki – 松岡敏行 (b. 1921) – Limited Edition Screen Print – Suō-nada – 周防灘
SOLD. THANK-YOU!
From Shimonoseki , Yamaguchi, Matsuoka-san graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1944. In 1949, he found success making hanga covers for children’s poetry books. He exhibited with and was a member of Nihon Nanga Kyokai. Besides exhibiting in the U.S. and Italy, he was a teacher in Kita Kyushu. This piece is a vibrant depiction of Suō-nada, a famous “beautiful place” of Japan. Matsuoka-san captured it brilliantly on his travels (the final picture is an example of the area). The richness of color of this piece is quite impressive. Very good condition. 21.5″ x 15″ (paper size), 16.5 x 10.5 (image size). Numbered #11/120 – 1990. Very rare.
