Matsuoka Toshiyuki – 松岡敏行 (b. 1921) – Limited Edition Mimeograph – 謄写版 – Noko-shima – 能古島

$250.00 CAD

From Shimonoseki , Yamaguchi, Matsuoka-san graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1944. In 1949, he found success making hanga covers for children’s poetry books. He exhibited with and was a member of Nihon Nanga Kyokai. Besides exhibiting in the U.S. and Italy, he was a teacher in Kita Kyushu. He is held in the Museum of Modern Art Wakayama (see image 10). Since Noko-shima is close to his home town, perhaps this was a day trip for Matsuoka-san, and perhaps his family knew that he might paint… …and maybe that is one of his children? The final picture shows a beach on the island, -perhaps the same one. The richness of the color of this piece is quite impressive. Very good condition. 21.5″ x 15″ (paper size), 16.5 x 10.5 (image size). Numbered #18/200 – 1989. Rare.
