Minagawa Kien – 皆川淇園 (1734-1807) – Hermitage Sansui – 庵山水 (Hand-Painted Reproduction)

Minagawa Kien was a highly regarded Confucian scholar, active as a philosopher, painter, poet and writer, who had roughly 3000 students at the height of his influence. We do not often acquire hand-painted reproductions, but this piece was expertly executed and will allow someone the rare opportunity to share in the serenity of mind and spirit that accompanied the great master, as originals are extremely rare, highly prized, and very expensive. One of his masterpieces held by his school/museum, which is in Kyoto, and still teaches to this day, can be seen here.
