Kinji was born the second son of Ogawa Bunzai IV. The lineage started in 1809 with the first Bunzai, who was born in Wakasugi Village, Kaga Province. Bunzai I travelled extensively across Japan, studying the various styles and techniques of making pottery. At the age of 30, he was requested to make a kiln in Osaka. A few years later, he moved to work in Kyoto. At age 36, he was granted permission to build a kiln in the wealthy merchant district. This was the beginning of the Kyoto lineage that continues to this day with the work of his descendant, Ogawa Bunzai VI.
Excellent condition. Original titled, handmade storage box. – 6.5″ x 6.5″ x 2″ (bowl size).
