Rinpa School Artist Circa 1890’s – Morning Glory – 朝顔

Sold. Thank-you!
This yet to be determined artist belonged to the Rinpa school. This piece is well over 100 years old, and we can see how he carried on the tradition of blending rich, dense colours with the blue and green and using gold paint with fine gold lines as the veins on the leaves. The morning glory symbolizes the immediacy of love because it opens quickly to the sun, as well as death and rebirth. When paired with a moth or butterfly, it adds affection. Two different high quality, artisan, hand-made washi papers (the strongest art paper in the world) perfectly balance the mounting. Good condition (small stain – minor creases). Once the artist is determined, this scroll will increase in value significantly.
