Sano Kōsui – 佐野 光穂 (1896-1960) – Pine & Moon – 松と月

$1,200.00 CAD

Born in Nagano prefecture, Kōsui first became a disciple of Kikuchi Keigetsu, who was from the same hometown and was trained by the Shijo school. He later switched to Tomita Keisen’s school, continued to excel at developing his own style, and was selected for numerous exhibitions, winning many awards at Inten. He excelled in Shin-nanga-style works (a 20th c. nanga, not often discussed in the west) and Rimpa-style bird-and-flower paintings (kacho-ga). He was a member of the Japan Art Institute and is held in the Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum, and the Musée Cernuschi, Paris, -among others. A major indication of the high-quality of this scroll is the beautiful handmade ceramic jikusaki (see picture). This piece has five-fold ancient auspicious symbolism that we would be happy to share with you.
