Sekine Kōnen – 関根孔年 (act. 1830-54) – Kachō-ga – 花鳥画

Not much information survives about Sekine, but we do know that he lived in Edo (now Tokyo) and was active in the Tenpō, Kōka and Kaei eras (1830-54). Records also show that he was a master of landscape and bird and flower painting (as evidence by this painting and the archived pages of Nan’yū Kikō  (1853) that I have placed after the pictures of this scroll.

This piece contains ancient, auspicious symbolism and we would be happy to tell you about it. Normal ageing and toning, a few creases and some faint stains. Please email for additional photos.
