This elegant piece is from the Katsura-gama (Katsura kiln), which was established in 1955 in Kyoto by Higaki Soraku I and his son, the second Higaki Soraku. Raku-yaki chawan are some of the most sought after tea bowls, and date back to ancient Kyoto, when they were created under the direction of the founding father of the Japanese tea ceremony: Sen-No-Rikyu.
