Tachibana Tenkei – 橘天敬 (1906-1984) – Mt. Fuji – 富士山水
$300.00 CAD
Tenkei graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, where he met other notable artists such as Okamoto Ippei, the father of Okamoto Tarō. Tenkei claimed to have been an illegitimate son of Emperor Meiji and used the citrus tachibana mon (citrus tachibana plant emblem created for and used by the Tachibana clan, -one of the four most powerful kuge (court nobility) families in Japan’s Nara and early Heian periods) as one of his name seals for his art (see picture 4). Mountains are auspicious for longevity, and mist and fog are a Zen reminder of the intangible things in life that we can’t grasp or comprehend. Picture 3 shows the possibilites of different lighting. Very good condition (very minor wear, foxing and crease in the chi [lower textile under the painting]).
