Mamiya Tadashi – 間宮正 (1911-1984) – Landscape With Herons – 鷺風景

SOLD. -THANK-YOU!

Mamiya-san studied under the great Noda Kyuho, and retained many of his techniques, incorporating them further with more modern techniques and materials. His work is reminiscent of some of his fellow modern landscape painters from the west. A full biography (with a fairly decent translation [one word really off and quite amusing]) can be seen here. He exhibited at the 1936 Summer Olympics and is held in The Museum of Modern Art, Saitama.

The tiny spots you see on the surface of the painting are reflective, sparkling pigments mixed into the paint that have a lovely effect when seen in person, and which complement the reflective qualities of the high-quality silk/cotton mounting. Good condition (a few tiny damages and some light foxing on the verso and a tiny bit on the surface of the painting). *The ancient Buddhist symbolism makes this piece auspicious for inner calm, longevity and success.
