Tokuriki Tomikichirō – 徳力富吉郎 – (1902-1999) – Izumo Shrine – 出雲大社

Izumo is one of the most important shrines in Japan. This series, like many of Tokuriki’s pieces, began its life as a watercolor painting. The master printer quite faithfully translated that feeling into each piece in this limited edition (hand-printed 1941).

Tomikichiro created prints from start to finish in his own workshop (Sōsaku-hanga), but also earned a living with Shin-hanga (collaborative efforts overseen by publishers). Born in Kyoto, he was a graduate of the School of Fine Arts and Crafts. He is fairly well known in the west. Very good condition.
