Yasaka Pagoda is 5-story tall pagoda that is the last remaining structure of a 6th-century temple complex known as Hōkan-ji Temple, in Kyoto. It is a designated “Important Cultural Property” and is sacred to followers of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. This hand-printed shikishi (strong washi paper board) was woodblock printed from the original blocks in 1936.

Tomikichiro created prints from start to finish in his own workshop (Sōsaku-hanga), but also earned a living with Shin-hanga (collaborative efforts overseen by publishers). Born in Kyoto, he was a graduate of the School of Fine Arts and Crafts. He is fairly well known in the west. *Please click the top left corner of the picture a second time to enlarge it further.
