Tomitori Hōkoku – 富取芳谷 (c. 1857-1925) – Head of the Tomitori clan – Orchid & Taikoseki – 蘭と太鼓石
$275.00 CAD
Trained from a young age, Tomitori-san was highly skilled in traditional painting. Not many pieces of his are still extant because he had to take on the duties as the head of the Tomitori clan, which involved many daily duties and responsibilities and ended his ability to paint full-time. This scroll is the epitome of elegance and refinement (the ancient symbolism of the orchid). The script refers to this as a rare valley orchid, -highly prized by those who are cultured. The taikoseki is a special water-shaped rock formed by natural waters churning within lake Tai, China, and it has been exported for Zen gardens and indoor ikebana installations since ancient times. Good, normal condition (light creases and small damages).
