Tsukioka Kōgyo – 月岡 耕漁 (1869-1927) – Pictures of Noh Theater – 能樂圖繪 – Kyūdō – 弓道

$150.00 CAD

Tsukioka-san was, and is still, regarded as one of the top Noh theatre, and figure painting artists of his time. Studying extensively with his father and the great Ogata Gekkō, he became the adopted son of the legendary Yoshitoshi, and himself became a renowned master of figure painting, refining his skills to incorporate the very fine details associated with Noh theatre kimono and costumes. Fine impressions and beautiful, rich mineral powder pigments, mica and gofun have expertly saturated the handmade washi paper. From a series of fifty-seven (with extras).

Condition: Backed and slightly trimmed on the left side margin – otherwise good condition (slight ageing, toning and soiling). Handmade in 1898. RARE and hard to acquire (probably because of the archery theme). The same print can be seen here at the British Museum.

9.5″ x 14″ – $150 CAD – Comes with a signed and sealed document of authenticity. Purchase price includes shipping and an email with approximately 3 hours worth of further reading and documentary viewing. All prices in Canadian dollars.
