Yamashita Chikusai – 山下竹斎 (1885-1973) – Sansui – 山水
SOLD. THANK-YOU!
Yamashita-san was born in Kyoto and became a student of the great Yamamoto Shunkyo. His talents led him to be regarded as one of Yamamoto’s best and highest ranking pupils. He was trained in the Maruyama-Shijō tradition and excelled at landscapes. He won his first prize in exhibition when he was 25 and went on to win 8 prizes in a row at one point! He then became a committee member of the newly formed Teiten Exhibition. A partial list of his other prizes can be seen here. His work is held in The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, the Otsu City Museum of History, and many other private collections. This is a thinner than normal sized scroll that will add a unique elegance to the right setting. The baby blue silk helps the mist and fog of the mountains float, suspended in the air. Very good condition (a couple of very small stains). *Please click the top left corner of the pictures to enlarge them.
