SOLD. – THANK-YOU!

After losing part of his left arm as a teenager in an army arsenal accident, Yano-san studied with Nagamatsu Shun’yo right after he finished elementary school. In his twenties, he co-founded “Shuchō-sha” (主潮社)”, which organized solo exhibitions and did not rely on the established exhibitions of the day. He also founded the private art college “Osaka Bijutsu Gakkō” (大阪美術学校), and co-founded the extremely influential “Nihon Nanga-in” (日本南画院), which operates to this day, very close the the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Yano was also a highly regarded exhibition juror. In 1959, he was awarded the “Culture Prize for Citizens of Osaka” (大阪市民文化賞, Osaka shimin bunka-shō), followed a couple of years later with an award from the Japanese Academy for the Arts for his piece: “Nishiki Kaede” (錦楓) – “Magnificent Maple”, which was donated in 2020 by its owner to Hirakata City, Osaka (see last picture). His works are held in the M.O.M.A.T., the Honolulu Museum, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, the Kyoto National Museum, and many other prestigious collections and museums. The poetry, roughly translated, is the artist speaking of how lovely it is to see this scene outside of his window. Good normal condition (light creases and light foxing). Cattle bone jikusaki (roller ends). Comes in an artisan, handmade storage box (tomobako) with a small space for the document of authenticity. We will be happy to share the auspicious ancient symbolism of this piece with you!
