Yokoyama Seiki was born in Kyoto and was one of the best students of Matsumura Keibun (1779-1843) – who was the youngest brother of the founder of the Shijo School, Matsumura Goshun (1752-1811). He was renowned for his painted folding screens and was commissioned to paint such screens “fusuma” for the Imperial Palace after the fire of 1854. Seiki is also very well known for his Kacho-ga as well as for his “sansui” – landscape paintings. Click here to view a handscroll of Yokoyama-san’s held in the collection of Princeton.
