Great artists like Chikanobu were able to create such beautiful things because of intense focus at their craft from childhood. As a boy, he showed a talent for painting and he trained in a private studio teaching Kano School painting.  He first studied print design with disciples of Keisai Eisen (1790-1848) and then around 1852, at the age of fourteen or fifteen, with Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi (1797-1861). Here is an 1885 original helping to bring life to “Genpei Seisuiki” – the rise and fall of two great clans. Lovely impressions alone create the pattern of the white kimono. Light folding line reinforced with tape. This fine quality woodblock will look gorgeous framed.
