Odake was the oldest of three brothers, both of which were also highly regarded artists. Mountains and pines are both auspicious for longevity. There is a lot more ancient auspicious symbolism inherent in this scroll that will be shared upon purchase. Very good condition (expertly remounted and strong enough to hang for over 100 years if taken care of properly).
This is a very fairly priced scroll, as the current cost of remounting a hanging scroll that was painted on silk is roughly $1500 Canadian. I confirmed this during my time with mounting artisans in Osaka and Kyoto.
AI Overview
Remounting a hand-painted silk hanging scroll (kakejiku) in Kyoto generally costs several hundred to over a thousand US dollars (or tens to hundreds of thousands of JPY), depending on the damage, size, and silk quality. Specialized restoration is labor-intensive and often costs more than the scroll’s market value.)
